Well, almost nothing is faster than serving up plain ol' HTML pages so you're probably looking at a problem with basic server performance or possibly bandwidth. How big are the pages and how long do they take to load? Are there a lot of graphics on the pages?

Run your page(s) through http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/

If you don't already have firebug (a Firefox plugin) and YSlow, install them and use them.

using the tools you guys posted, i found that the issue was image references within the css - so when the home page loaded, it was loading all the banners for every page on the site

i moved the banners into the html as img tags and its running much faster

tx!

If you aren't already using it, try gzipping your content before sending it to the client. There's an easy to use .htaccess setting that allows you to do it automatically:

Code:
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/plain
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/html
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE text/css
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/xhtml+xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/rss+xml
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/javascript
AddOutputFilterByType DEFLATE application/x-javascript

For more information, check this site:
